For this personal project, I took inspiration from Hearthstone's Golden card animations and applied them to another game, Yu-Gi-Oh, to learn the process of animating static artwork using effects within After Effects.

Hearthstone is a digital card game created by Blizzard, based on the lore of World of Warcraft.

Yu-Gi-Oh! is a psychical Trading Card Game, created by Kazuki Takahashi.

• What are Golden card animations in Hearthstone?

 

Golden Cards are a special kind of card rarity in Hearthstone and act as foil, with animated artwork. The difference between regular cards and golden versions are purely aesthetic. Examples provided below:
